Carlos Garnett is a Panamanian born jazz saxophonist and started playing tenor saxophone in 1957.

In 1962, he moved to New York, whilst in America Garnett established himself as one of the worlds finest saxophone players. He gained recognition for his work with Freddie Hubbard (1968-1969), Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers (1969-1970), and Charles Mingus, and had an important stint with Miles Davis in 1972 during this period, he recorded on "On the Corner", "Big Fun," "Get Up with It" and "Live at the Philharmonic.

Garnett also worked with Woody Shaw, Charles Earland, Pharoah Sanders, Andrew Hill, Gary Bartz, and Norman Connors during the era and recorded five albums of his own for Muse during 1974-1977.

In 1996 Carlos Garnett recorded 'Resurgence' after a 9 Year hiatus. In 1998, he made one of his finest albums (Fuego en Mi Alma, for the HighNote label) in a style little changed since the '70s. Some of his most notable appearances include playing tenor and soprano sax with Norman Connors, Herbie Hancock, and DeeDee Bridgewater on the recording "Love From The Sun" where his improvisations were consistently incisive and daring. He also appeared on his own recording called "Black Love"  playing tenor, alto and soprano saxophones. Another notable appearance is as one of the main soloists  with a hard driving latin group called 'The Latin Jazztet'. In the latter 1990's Garnett also recorded "Under Nubian Skies" featuring guest trumpet player Russell Gunn. Carlos Garnett showed his Coltrane influences, on the recording called "Moonshadow" which he recorded in the year 2000 playing an outstanding version of "Giant Steps" .

Other outstanding Garnett recordings are "Journey Into Enlightenment", "Let This Melody Ring On" and "Cosmos Nucleus " which Garnett himself describes as his 'first and only big band venture thus far'.
